Barry Heron Memorial Business Bursary
Barry loved STI, both as a student and as an Instructor. He grew up in Moose Jaw and graduated from the Business course at STI, working in the industry for a few years then returning to school to earn his education degree at the University of Saskatchewan.
It will be fifty years ago this September when Barry was hired to teach Marketing in the Business Department at STI. He loved his job, particularly working with the many staff and students over the years.
Beyond the classroom, Barry and a colleague founded the ski club. They organized different fundraising events for new equipment and each Saturday during winter, the club went to White Track ski hill. Later, Barry was instrumental in extending the club’s activities into the ski hills throughout Banff National Park.
Barry was an educator for close to 40 years. He guided many students, helping them to for fill their dreams.
Barry’s most important principles were serving the community and making a positive impact with others. This began at STI/SIAST/Saskatchewan Polytechnic many years ago and expanded into areas outside of education, namely the Hillcrest Sports Centre where he served on the board and as a volunteer for many years.
The Barry Heron Memorial Business Bursary will support students enrolled in the Business – Marketing program at the Moose Jaw campus.
