Lorie Carey Memorial

Lorie Carey Memorial

The Lorie Carey Memorial Award is in memory of Lorie Carey, CIM, P.Mgr, who graduated in 1976 from the Medical Lab Technology program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic (then SIAST), Saskatoon Campus. She received the 2019 LOINC (Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes) Award for Distinguished Contributions at the Regenstrief Institute in Indianapolis. Lorie was instrumental in improving Canadian data standards over the course of her career, improving point-of-care delivery and health research. She developed the pan-Canadian LOINC Observation Code Database (pCLOCD), a collection of the most relevant codes for Canadians that pulls from the larger LOINC terminology. Adopted in 11 of 13 Canadian jurisdictions, p-CLOCD serves a population of nearly 40 million people. She also assisted in the development of Canada Health InfoWay’s Request Management System, which streamlined the process for requesting updates to LOINC, improving the standard around the world.
